I have always felt drawn to helping people and to exploring interpersonal relationships and personal growth. I am truly passionate about serving others as a counselor, and feelthat I offer a unique approach.
I graduated from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, with a degree in Transpersonal Counseling and Psychology. I have been working in the field of mental health for 20 years, and have been a licensed therapist in private practice for 10 years.
My work is client centered, focusing in Transpersonal Psychology and Rogerian Theory approaches where mental health is not viewed from "normal" vs. flawed, but rather identifies that each person has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change. I don't see myself as "the expert" norjudge others' experiences. I see myself as a facilitator who assists clients in discovering their own truth and healing processes. I also have training in meditation and working with the unconscious mind through art therapy such as sand tray creation and dream study.
I have served as an advocate working with the community and the schools around domestic violence and sexual assault. I also have experience in community mental health, crisis, and alcohol and drug addictions.
Maitri is a Sanskrit word that means unconditional friendliness to oneself. It is an attitude of openness and compassion toward one's own experience.
